Saturday

It’s Saturday and we have made Kununurra. Wow, What a few days. No phone or internet access at all and a lot of tough dirt road driving. Since our last blog we have driven across the Northern Territory and are now in Western Australia having crossed the border late this afternoon. Everybody is completely buggered due to a large party and camping out last night. This experience cannot really be described in words. The scenery is awesome, the people are mad, and the parties are huge. Each day there is a party stop. This consists of driving through the bush for a couple of hours and then turning around a corner to find 30 or 40 bash cars parked and the grog is on. Hundreds of miles from anywhere. The Bash Busters car opens its back doors to reveal a full bar and the owner blends cocktails for whoever would like one. Elvis will perform on top of his car. Laverne and Shirley will arrive. Scooby Doo (yes in full dog outfit) will stand and have a chat and a beer. Bizarre. Look at the footage attached. http://www.youtube.com/user/runcidog#p/u/0/Hx8M_VoYl1A
If anyone is looking to become involved in a charity and have a fantastic time along the way, please, consider doing this. It really is worth the effort.

DAY 3 CHARLEVILLE TO LONGREACH

Old Harry bashed it up again today. A pretty tough run to Longreach in the bush. Harry almost did a headstand when we ran into a  massive pothole doing about 90kph but the old bloke seems to be ok. Some damage underneath but we think (hope) ok to drive. Kind of strange when you have been driving through the bush like a maniac for 2 hours and you come around a corner to find 40 bash cars parked on the side of the road for a party stop.

Day 2 - Made it to Charleville

Well old Harry did us proud again today... around 700km today with a lot on dirt and the last 200 or so in the dark and dust. Hairy shit. Still no speedo but as Dan from Pittwater Prestige told me via SMS this morning... speedo's are for poofs! Onya Dan. Another big day tomorrow. Yeeharrrr! Some footage is attached to this link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYGhuLcSQHU

Day 1 - Baulkham Hills to Inverell

What a day! About 650 km to Inverell with about 300km of that on dirt! Old Harry is fine - a little battered and dusty but came through relatively unscathed thanks to the awesome mechanics Dan and Mick at Pittwater Prestige Services.
Slight problem with the speedo not working so not sure how fast or how far we are going which we will deal with tomorrow. Old Harry won't break any land speed records anyway.
Big day tomorrow heading to Charleville. Over 700 km with a lot of dirt.  Go the Sea Eagles!

1 Week to go!

Ok, just 8 sleeps to go until we take off. The course has been extended somewhat to over 5800km so hopefully the blue basher is ready for it!
Thank you to everybody who came to barefoot bowls at Bondi for your generosity and support - without our friends we would not be going.

Thank you to the Trisic Family

A huge thank you to the Trisic family their donation and support. Another example of fantastic generosity  from a family run Northern Beaches business. The Trisic Family currently own and operate three independent liquor stores - Brookvale Cellars, Augusta Cellars Collaroy Plateau and Fairlight Cellars. PLEASE, don't support Coles and Woolworths, go to one of these family owned bottle shops for all of your drinking needs.
